The Best Fixed Power Scopes Over $1000 – 2023

The Best Fixed Power Scopes Over $1000 for Hunting & Long-Range 2023

Most people overlook the best fixed-power scopes because they do not offer as many magnifications. A fixed scope with a power of 4 or more can be useful if you use the rifle for a particular task, such as hunting or competitive shooting.

The fixed power rifle scopes require very little adjustment and are simple to use. Since there are fewer knobs, 4x and higher scopes tend to be simpler in their design. This makes them lighter, easier to use, and quicker on the gun. Here’s a guide to the top fixed-power scopes. Now, let’s begin.

Fixed Scope vs. Variable Scope

Let’s first distinguish between scopes that are fixed and those with variable scopes.

The description of fixed scopes has only one number. As an example, 3×32 or 10×40. Variable scopes, on the other hand have an array of numbers and offer more than one magnifying power. A 3-9×32 is an example.

Which is the better option? None. It all depends on what you need and want. If you are hunting at different distances, choose a variable-power scope such as the LPVO. If you hunt at varying distances, a fixed power scope is the best choice. Fixed-power scopes are often more durable, cheaper, and allow for faster aim. Remember that you are limited to a single range and not a number of them.

What is the best magnification for you?

Select a scope that has a magnification appropriate for the distance you intend to shoot. You can use this handy table to choose the best magnification.

MagnificationDistanceMost Effective For
1-4x100 yardsSmall game hunting and Home Defense
5-8x200 yardsHunting in enclosed landscapes and stalking large game
9-12xBeyond 200 yardsHunting in open landscapes

The Best Fixed Power Scopes Buyers’ Guide

Magnification

If you’re purchasing a fixed-focus scope, it is crucial to choose the correct magnification. This magnification range is perfect for hunters who are able to engage targets moving at distances less than 100 yards.

If you want to shoot targets from 750 yards, a scope with a higher magnification would be best. A low-powered, variable magnification sight is a great choice for hunting animals like varmints and pigs that move constantly.

Lens Size

It is measured by the distance between the lens and the barrel or stock. The number that appears after the “x” in the name of a scope is the size. Size of the objective lens determines how much light can be passed through a rifle scope. A larger objective lens allows more light to enter the scope, resulting in a brighter image. This will, however, make the scope more heavy.

Weight

Decide where you will spend the majority of your shooting time. If you’re planning to use sandbags or a bipod to steadie your rifle from great distances, a larger scope might not pose a big problem.

A lighter riflescope is ideal for those who will be trekking in the mountains between shots, which can be very strenuous to your shoulders and arms.

Tube Size

Knowing the size of your tube is important if you are just getting started so you can purchase the right mounting rings. Before purchasing any mounting rings, it is crucial to measure the tube diameter to make sure that your scope will fit properly.

Most tubes come in either 30mm or 1-inch diameters. The larger the tube, the more adjustment you can make inside. Remember that most riflescopes in the United States are sold with one-inch tubes.

Reticle

The “crosshair” or reticle is the component of the riflescope which determines how the bullet’s trajectory will be. As with eye relief preferences, the reticle is a completely subjective choice. Shooters have a variety of choices. Crosshair thickness has an impact on your accuracy. Choose a reticle to suit your style of shooting and eye.

Many reticles feature scales or posts as crosshairs. The tiny increments, measured in milliradians (or minute angles), are used to calculate the drop of bullets at greater ranges. The reticle’s calibration will determine which tick marks are correct for each range.

Leupold Mark 5HD 5-25x56mm M1C3 FFP Riflescope

The Scope

  • Leupold Mark 5HD 5-25x56mm Illume with Front Focal, PR-1 MOA Reticle and Matte Finish Model No. 176449.
  • Leupold lifetime warranty on all products. 100% waterproof, fogproof, shockproof and guaranteed to be 100% water-proof.
  • M1C3 Turrets: 1/4 MOA dial, three revolutions, push button Zero Lock and revolution indicator
  • Front Focal Plane – the reticle will magnify along with your image so that you can calculate range for all magnification levels.
  • Twilight Max HD Light Management System – Up to 30 minutes shooting light. Best in class glare control. Edge to edge HD lens Clarity.

Mark 5HD comes in three different variants: 3.6-18×44; 5-25×56; and 7-35×56. This review is based on the 5-25×56 long-range model. This 5-25×56 model is ideal for long range shooting and practical rifle competitions. The 5-25×56 variant is the ultimate optic for practical rifle competitions and long-range shooting.

The Construction of the Building

The Leupold 5HD is a tough tactical optic that doesn’t let you down. This scope is durable and solid thanks to the 35mm maintube. When purchasing optic rings, it is important to consider the size of the maintube. It takes 35mm rings.

Glass

How clear is the Mark 5HD? The scope was tested at different magnifications up to 700m and we were very impressed. The image was crystal clear at all magnifications. There were no fuzzy edges. Leupold treat the glass in a way that enhances light transmission while protecting it from abrasions.

The glass’ performance in low-light conditions was a real test as the sun set. We like this feature because it shows us how well an optic performs when the light is needed most. Once again, the Mark 5HD did not disappoint with its brightness. Leupold’s lenses are coated with a Twilight Max HD coating, which gives the optical its edge in this setting.

Low light transmission can be a very important hunting feature, as certain game animals will only descend from the mountain at dawn or dusk. The amount of light that an optical can capture is important in these situations.

Magnification

First, the throw lever is removable. The throw lever is a useful feature that helps to change magnification quickly. Magnification rings on Mark 5 HD move consistently with a high level of resistance.

This 5-25×56 magnification is perfect for shooting at long distances. This optic is also available in a lower magnification (3.6-18×44) for shooters who are shooting at closer ranges or those looking for a lightweight optic.

When you are aiming at extremely far distances, the 7-36×56 is a powerful magnification. Higher magnifications do come with benefits as the weight increases.

Reticle

Leupold has a wide range of reticle options. The Mark 5HD is available in six different styles to meet the needs and preferences of varying users. The Tremor 3 Reticle has been used in the past by many Precision Rifle series champions as well as military units. It has a range of features, including wind dot timers and distance bars. If you are using the scope for hunting, a less “busy” reticle will make it easier to see game.

TURRETS

The turrets of the Mark 5HD are the first place where it starts to gain an edge over the competition at this price. It offers the same zeroing as the optics, whereby you simply remove the screws and move the turret until it is at the correct zero. Then tighten the screws. Leupold’s elevation turret has a unique feature that makes it stand out from its competitors. When using an optical with exposed turrets, the position of the turrets could be altered when carried over the shoulder. Leupold has added a button to the elevation turret. When pressed, it allows the elevation settings to be changed. This button is very easy to operate and a great feature on a rifle which sees hefty field usage.

A threaded cap covers the windage turret of the Mark 5HD. Most precision rifle shooters, long-range hunters and other users of wind holdovers will use holdovers rather than clicking adjustments. However, the option to adjust turretwindage is still available.

Also, windage zero marks are not located in the usual place. Instead they are offset from the standard spot. The user can now see where the windage zero is located when they are behind the scope.

Parallax adjustments are marked at 75, 100 200 400 600 800 yards.

Weight

Leupold’s Mark 5HD 5-25×56 is 30oz/850g. It is the overall weight of this optic that makes it stand out. The Mark 5HD appears to be lighter in comparison. Weight is a factor that is not relevant for everyone, but it should be considered in conjunction with the overall weight of the gun.

Leupold Mark5HD 5-25×5630oz/850g
Nightforce ATACR 5-25×5637.6oz/1066g
Vortex Razor Gen II 4.5-27×5648.5oz/1374g
Weight comparison

Weights for the 3.6-18×44 are 26oz/737g, and 7-35×56 weights 33oz/935g

This optic is a lightweight, high-quality design with many features designed for use in the field.

This optic is an excellent choice for those looking for a reliable long-range rifle scope. It is also built to be used in the field. The Mark 5HD is a great choice for long-range hunting because of its weight and simple options.
