Firearms law in Canada is federal — the Firearms Act and the RCMP Canadian Firearms Program set classification (Non-Restricted / Restricted / Prohibited) and the PAL/RPAL licence. The provincial Chief Firearms Officer (CFO) administers licensing, transfers, ranges and business licences, with only minor provincial policy differences. In the territories the CFO for the Territories administers licensing, and Indigenous / subsistence-hunting provisions under the Firearms Act may apply.
